Museum Speelklok launches game into the online world of Roblox
Today, Museum Speelklok is the first museum in the Netherlands to launch a game on the popular online platform Roblox. The new game, ‘Music Machine Monster’, is inspired by the museum’s extraordinary historical collection of music machines.

In the adventurous game full of music and technology, players aged 7 and up can explore the world of these music machines such as musical clocks, street organs, music boxes and automata. By playing the nine missions and collecting objects and badges, players create their ultimate music machine to defeat the monster, a once brilliant inventor, in the end battle.
Worldwide audience in Roblox
By launching this game in Roblox, Museum Speelklok brings its music machines to a young and worldwide audience. In this way, the museum can playfully show that you can solve problems with technology and create the most beautiful things, such as music. In Roblox, 90 million players worldwide are active every day. ‘Music Machine Monster’ can be played for free with an account in Roblox on mobile, laptop, PC or console. The game was developed by immersive studio Broken Egg.Â
Ebelin Boswinkel, Head of Presentation and Education at Museum Speelklok: ‘It is incredible to see how the first players of ‘Music Machine Monster’ enthusiastically and with red cheeks let their avatar run around on cylinders from music machines, eat as many musical notes as possible along the way and hoist up weights to prevent themselves from falling into lava. They have no idea that they are actually learning all the time. How cool do you want a museum to be?’Â

Adventure game about music machines
‘Music Machine Monster’ is an adventure game set in the enchanted realm of the Speelklok Islands: Music Island and Motion Island. In the game, players embark on a quest to defeat the monster, once a brilliant inventor, and restore harmony on the islands. Along the way, players while running or riding their bike encounter all kinds of games and instruments, such as a pavement with piano keys on which you can jump to make music. In addition to everything there is to discover about music and technology, there are nine missions spread across the islands. Players can float high above the city on air from organ pipes, play pinball on the metal plate of a music box or run for their lifes to avoid being crushed in a spring that pops loose. By collecting musical notes throughout the game clothing and other items can be purchased for their avatar in the shop.Â
The creation of the surroundings in ‘Music Machine Monster’ was inspired by the city of Utrecht, home base of Museum Speelklok and includes some iconic locations such as the Dom tower and the typically Utrecht canals. The game has both single-player and multiplayer games.Â
